This post is going to be dedicated to the character of "Mai" from the "Yu-Gi-Oh! DM" anime not the manga, as the manga failed to do justice to the main female duelist and player in this anime. It will be divided in 3 parts (Duelist Kingdom, Battle City and Waking The Dragons).
A fourth part might be included like before she joined doma but after battle city as Mai was shown dueling in tournaments, contests etc.
Though i largely excluded manga versions of duel's that mai had any involvement in i will include screenshot's from that continuity when it comes to proving how many star chip & "locater/puzzle card's" she earned/gained in different tournament's.
Her duelist kingdom performance;
Star chips earned after dueling Jonouchi.
Star chips earned after Atem returns what she lost to Panik.
So - Mai got 8 more chip's after that.
Her match with Atem and Yugi combined.
She was basically the better duelist/player. Losing ultimately to plot armor, not Atem.
Her battle city performance;
Her beating other duelists to get four locater cards.
Source - "Yugioh Episode 63" (the 'battle city arc').
Her beating a unnamed duelist who wore glass's.
Jean Claude Magnum lost to Mai, and Jean was actually a good duelist, he made it to the finals as he got 5 puzzle cards.
And since Kaiba only allows duelists whose ranking is level 5 or higher to play in his tournament it means Jean was more than skilled enough to compete, as the only ones who came illegally besides bakura & malik are isis and rishid. Kaibacorp had data on every other duelist. Mai beating him is as good as beating any finalist (including atem/kaiba as those 2 only win based on plot armor).
Mai's anime duel with Dark Marik.
Though marik didnt take mai very seriously in this duel considering her just a "warm up" it should be noted that Mai did very well in this fight.
She took care of the Revival Jam & Breeding Machine Combo very easily compared to the trouble Atem had in both his duels (when he fought strings aka Regular Marik) (when he fought the Metal Reflect Slime & Revival Jam used by Dark Marik).
She also beat "Death Gardius" very easily while kaiba & atem needed to do labor against that monster card. Mai has proven to perform better than both the protagonist & tritagonist of the franchise.
After this duel Marik changed a majority of the card's that were in his deck, indicating that his duel with Mai's the only time where he used a deck that was originally created by his other half (the "regular marik" ishtar).
Her involvement in "Waking The Dragons";
She should have had a full duel with Raphael, at least an episode dedicated to their duel, who knows maybe Mai used "Hermos" in her latest deck.
But she did dominate Jonouchi in their first duel, when Jonouchi ended up attaning Hermos for the first time and the duel was undecided, plot armor kicked in as Mai lost the will to fight back and resist so Varon had to come in between.
The second duel she had with him was won fair and square by Mai. She somehow took away the hermos card after her victory.
She had Pegasus beat when he was using Relinquished with Thousand Eyes Restrict/Illusion. Without the Sennen Eye Pegasus remained a powerful threat & elite duelist/player. In his duel with Kaiba (before the Orichalcos arc in the Pyramid of Light Movie) he was able to summon three monsters in one turn.
Each of those monster card's had summoning requirement's like "tribute". Beating the creator at his own game is impressive. Because Mai beat Pegasus when he was more experienced and used to the new rulebook system.
Bonus;
The unseen moments after battle city & before waking the Dragons.
She beat the duelist who used Tri-Horn-Dragon mixed with the equip spell "Rush Recklessly"
Mai defeated another unknown, unamed duelist in another flashback.
Accolade's;
Pegasus claimed that Mai's deck has no weakness.
Basically - if it had been Mai who won the tournament instead of Atem, then Pegasus also would be hard pressed to beat Mai as his deck contains weakness's unlike hers. This's in duelist kingdom.
Mai Kujaku is a far better duelist than Atem, Jonouchi, Kaiba etc.
